Movies That I Like to Watch When I’m sick

  • The Martian – pacing is good when you don’t want anything really bombastic but still want a good, entertaining movie.
  • Silverado – directed by Lawrence Kasdan, written by Lawrence Kasdan and Mark Kasdan, with Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, a young Kevin Costner and Danny Glover, one of my favorite movies, easy to just keep on the TV. Runner-up: Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer.
  • Mad Max: Fury Road – when you want to overload your senses so that you get tired enough to fall asleep, while waiting for the Nyquil to kick in.
  • Star Wars: A New Hope – perfect pacing, don’t have to pay too much attention because we all know the story, familiar characters, happy ending. The Empire Strikes Back has too much conflict to digest when you’re sick. Return of the Jedi is way too action-packed.
  • Don’t watch Ralph Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings cartoon when you’re full of meds.
  • You’ve Got Mail – Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan writing to each other back and forth will let you nod off multiple times during the movie without waking you up with a loud scene, happy ending. Plus the Meg Ryan being sick scene…maybe that’s why I thought about that movie right now.
  • Good Night and Good Luck – great, substantial b/w movie that is good to keep on the TV while you’re sleeping. Great to watch when you’re awake and lucid.
