Daredevil Season Two, Non-Spoiler Review

  • Better than Daredevil season 1 and Jessica Jones.
  • Faster-paced than season 1 since they don’t need DD’s origin setup.
  • The evolution of the relationship between Frank Castle/Punisher and Matt/Daredevil’s is magnificent.
  • Except for some moments from one supporting character (Reyes), EVERY actor is perfect.
  • Feels like production value is cleaner, more refined in a good way. Like the cast and crew are more comfortable in characters’ skin and getting straight to business.
  • More fights than season 1, but the heart of Daredevil’s production is in its tight script and strong characters.
  • MORE moments of humanity from more characters than in season 1.
  • Every character has moments of WORTH, to prove that each person is absolutely necessary for the story to unfold.
  • A couple slow episodes but ABSOLUTELY not throwaway episodes–the talking parts needed as setup for what’s to come.
  • More humor than season 1, the least dark of all three Marvel Netflix shows (DD season 1, Jessica Jones, DD season 2).

Superhero Stuff

  • X-Men: Apocalypse new trailer–looks GREAT! IMO this is now a 3-horse race between Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War and X-men. What’s with the Force Awakens piano music?
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice soundtrack released. For some reason it kinda reminds me of some music from Star Wars: Force Awakens, the First Order/Kylo Ren parts.
  • Luke Cage Netflix teaser trailer – same “feel” as Deadpool, good timing since Deadpool is still fresh in people’s minds.
  • Amber Heard to play Mera in Justice League and Aquaman.
  • Indiana Jones 5 with Harrison Ford, written by same dude who write Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls (instead of Frank Darabont). Meh.
  • I’m basically tired with Agents of SHIELD. Enough with the soap opera subplots already! There’s this juicy, strong Inhuman storyline that is begging to be told and they waste their time with Daisy’s angst, Coulson’s fake/not-fake hand problems, and the monster formerly known as Grant Ward.
  • Last Sunday’s The Walking Dead was damn cool–this Carol and Maggie adventure feels like part 2 of what began the week before with the assault on the satellite dish building. Great maybe-bluff by Carol!

Star Wars News

  • Dubrovnik rumors: Han Solo’s funeral? Republic Council meeting?
  • Finn and Rey ride a space horse
  • Dubrovnik reminiscent of Game of Thrones’ locations, esp. Casterly Rock, also Minas Tirith in Lord of the Rings
  • Star Wars: Battlefront new DLC. I haven’t had time to download it yet but unless/until they improve gameplay, esp. team balancing, I’m not gonna get too excited
  • Rogue One comics three-issue limited series and one-shot comic coming out in October, will be a PREQUEL to the movie Rogue One. My updated thoughts on Rogue One
  • My favorite Star Wars YouTube cover song, The Force Theme, by Joshua Chiu on violin (on his YouTube page), and his friend Ryan on piano:

Daredevil Season Two, SPOILER Review!

I wrote a bunch of notes while watching the series, will retype notes here and talk about it on the podcast:

  • Faster-paced than season 1 since they don’t need origin setup for DD.
  • Season 2’s first “hallway fight” comes in episode 3, about 40 minutes in. BETTER than season 1 hallway fight.
  • Frank Castle/Punisher is just the right balance of genuine/crazy/unrelenting/honest–their (Matt and Frank’s) relationship’s evolution is absolutely fascinating.
  • Punisher introduced and his main story in episodes 1-4.
  • “Feels” like production value is cleaner, more refined in a good way. Like the cast and crew are now comfortable in their skin and are getting straight to business.
  • Foggy’s “scene” at the ER is amazing, w/ Night Nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson).
  • EVERY scene is top-notch, nothing seems half-assed. The ER scene is as good as the best ER shows.
  • Roof scene with Matt/DD & Punisher is insightful, kinda breakthrough, gives you compassion to both sides WITHOUT being mushy.
  • Graveyard scene w/ Punisher soliloquy ALMOST goes on too long, BUT it’s necessary to allow Frank Castle to have his cathartic moment, tell his story. He finishes with “Okay, I’m done”–the show is self-aware and isn’t afraid to admit it.
  • Every character has moments of WORTH, to prove that each person is absolutely necessary for the story to unfold. You empathize with every character, even Grotto, played by McCaleb Burnett.
  • Ben Urich’s editor, Ellison (Geoffrey Cantor) is a worthy replacement, and hesitatingly takes over where Urich left off.
  • Frank Castle vs. Irish mafia; DD vs. biker gang; Elektra vs. Yakuza; all of them vs. The Hand.
  • Foggy Nelson is the Cisco Ramon (from CW’s The Flash) of Daredevil.
  • They’re immortal, not invincible–Nobu gets beheaded by Stick.
  • Elektra is psycho.
  • Last 3 episodes feel like Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
  • Gets NECESSARILY boring around episode 9-10, but needed for back story and exposition, and setup to what’s to come.
  • Foggy Nelson w/ Hogarth law firm.
  • “I know now how it feels to be good. Does it always hurt that much?” -Elektra (Ellie)
  • “Tell them something they don’t know. Hell, I’ll read the shit out of that.” – Ellison to Karen Page
  • What is it, to be a Hero?
  • Cliffhanger with Elektra!

GeekSwag getting ready for WonderCon

Here’s a sneak peek at some new stuff we’re making to get ready for WonderCon. This is a HOPE shirt using Rey from The Force Awakens with the same style as Shepard Fairey’s Obama poster. This one is for our resident GeekSwag supergirl. (Yes folks, we make t-shirts for kids also!) BTW, the other designs you see are the Zombie Proof shirts that I designed and I’ll probably be wearing to promote GeekSwag.
